Man Wakes From 19-Year Coma in Poland
WARSAW, Poland (June 3) - A railway worker who emerged from a 19-year coma woke to a radically altered Poland and thinks "the world is prettier now" than it was under communism, his wife said Sunday.
What if an American had been in a coma for the last 19 years? Could any of us have said, "the world is prettier now?" How would we explain what he's missed? And how is it we're not hearing what his next words were? My guess? "I'm hungry. What's for dinner?" I'd be hard pressed to account for how we've gotten into the shape we're in.
I wonder if this woman anticipated he'd come out of the coma? Did she even know he was in a coma? Maybe he was the strong, silent type and she thought of it simply as a lull in the conversation.
